Trauma Services

Always Ready
You can't be ready or prepared when the need for trauma care arises. That's why Forrest General Hospital's Trauma Center provides an immediate, organized response by a highly-specialized team, 24/7, 365 days a year. Our Level II Trauma Center serves 19 counties across South Mississippi and is the only Level II trauma center in the Pine Belt.
As a Level II Trauma Center, we provide the following:
All of the Forrest Health hospitals provide emergency services. Trauma cases that need a higher level of care are transferred to Forrest General Hospital. Patients are transferred by ambulance or air ambulance, depending on the condition. If a patient needs to be admitted to the hospital following emergency care, they will be admitted to Forrest General.
In the event that more specialized care is needed, patients will sometimes be transferred from Forrest General to The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Reaching Those in Need, Where they Are
Before our trauma system could be what it is today, we were faced with a challenge: How do we reach people in rural areas, without marked streets or house numbers, quickly and efficiently? Dr. Richard Clark tells the story of our trauma program from the beginning in 1971.
Our Trauma Team
The Trauma Center is staffed by board-certified trauma surgeons, an in-house anesthesiologist who is available 24-hours a day, and provides 24-hour coverage for neurosurgery, orthopedic, maxillofacial, otolaryngology, and urology surgeries in addition to interventional radiology services.
Post-Trauma Care
To ensure that you receive a continuum of care, we have a specialized trauma follow-up clinic. This way patients can see providers who are familiar with their situation and can oversee the recovery process from beginning to end.
