Highland Community Hospital in Picayune is a 49-bed acute care hospital dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible healthcare for residents across South Mississippi. Highland combines advanced medical technology with compassionate, patient-centered care close to home.

Highland offers a wide range of services to meet the community’s healthcare needs. The Cardiopulmonary Department provides advanced cardiology and diagnostic services to help address heart disease, while the Emergency Department delivers efficient and effective care for every type illness, injury, and trauma with access to specialized services at its flagship hospital, Forrest General, when needed. Patients also benefit from an Intensive Care Unit, 24/7 laboratory and respiratory therapy services, rehabilitation therapy, and comprehensive imaging including MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography, nuclear medicine, and digital X-ray. HCH’s surgical staff is available to provide a wide range of scheduled inpatient and outpatient procedures as well as emergency care. Wound Healing Care and swing bed services for extended skilled care are also available.

The hospital is designated a Baby-Friendly facility, which means they adhere to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. In addition to the Family Birth Center where staff members help parents welcome babies in a relaxing and calming atmosphere, Pediatric Services are also available for the smallest patients.

Preparing to Visit

Visiting Hours

General | 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Our regular visiting hours are between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. If visitors are not able to come during these hours, please ask your nurse about specific visiting polices on your unit. The number of visitors is limited in each room to no more than four. Overnight guests are restricted to one to two per patient.

Waiting Areas 

There are specially designed waiting areas for visitors. Specific waiting areas have been designated for families of patients in Emergency Services, Surgery, ICU, Radiology Services, and Labor and Delivery.

Cafeterias and Dining

The cafeteria at Highland is open daily and serves breakfast and lunch.

  • Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Wholesome, nourishing and well-balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery. Highland makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared according to your doctor's orders. Occasionally your meal maybe be delayed if you are scheduled for special test or treatment. Whenever possible, you will be served after your examination or test.

If a family member or visitor wants to eat in your room with you, the person may visit our cafeteria and purchase a meal to take back up to the room.

Billing & Insurance

Billing: What a Hospital Bill Covers

The hospital bill covers the cost of your room, meals, 24-hour nursing care, laboratory work, tests, medication, therapy and the services of hospital employees. You will receive a separate bill from your physicians for their professional services. If you have questions about these separate bills, please call the number printed on each statement.

The hospital is responsible for submitting bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to expedite your claim. You should remember that your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company and that you have the final responsibility for payment of your hospital bill.

If you do not have a Forrest Health Iris account, you can still utilize the estimate tool. However, you will need to manually enter your specific insurance information into the estimate tool. The estimate will only be as accurate as the information you enter.

The estimate generated will only represent an estimate of the amount you owe Forrest Health. We do not guarantee the estimate to be exactly what you will owe for the services provided. Professional fees from certain providers will be billed separately.
