Forrest General Hospital Bariatric Support Group to Meet First Tuesday of Each Month

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (August 29, 2022) Forrest General Hospital is introducing a Bariatric Support Group which will meet the first Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria meeting rooms. No pre-registration is required to attend.

This class is for patients who have had bariatric surgery in the past or are recovering from recent surgery. Forrest General's weight loss surgery services offer bariatric care for people who are overweight and struggling to lose weight. Weight loss helps you reach and maintain a healthy weight and can lower the risk of medical complications and improve your quality of life.

The topic for the September class is “Exercising after Bariatric Surgery.” Physical therapist, Nikki Dolan, will lead the group in a 15-20 minute exercise session followed by a question-and-answer period.

Weight loss surgery can help you lose up to 70% of your excess weight within the first 12 to 18 months after surgery. Losing extra weight may improve your:

  • Blood pressure
  • Blood sugar levels
  • Chronic joint pain
  • Digestive health
  • Sleep
