Nominations sought for FGH Spirit in Action Awards
Forrest General’s Spirit of Women is seeking nominations for its 15th Annual Spirit in Action Awards.
Spirit of Women has been recognizing outstanding citizens in the Pine Belt who have taken action to make the community a healthier, safer, more inspirational place to live. The awards have been presented since 2006.
Now is your chance to nominate someone for the 2020 Spirit in Action Awards.
Nominations are open to men and women, ages 35 and older. Winners will be honored at the Spirit of Women Spring Event on Thursday, April 9, at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. The event will feature keynote speaker, Lacey Chabert, a Purvis native and actress based in Los Angeles, Calif.
Forms are available online at forrestgeneral.com/spiritinaction. *Nominations can be made by any person over the age of 21. Nominees must be age 35 or older and reside in one of the following counties: Covington, Forrest, George, Greene, Hancock, Jefferson Davis, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Simpson, Smith, Stone, Walthall, Wayne.
There are no set categories for the 2020 Spirit in Action Awards.
Former winners have included Dr. Tommy King, William Carey University president; Toby Barker, mayor of Hattiesburg; Ann McCullen, executive director of Edwards Street Mission; Jan Lacey, a community leader with involvement in Leadership Pinebelt, the Area Development Partnership, United Way and Habitat for Humanity; Kent Oliver, founder of Laughs 4 Life; the late Jay Slaughter and others.
Deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26, so don’t delay. Applications received after March 26 will not be considered for awards.
