Forrest General Donates Items to Louisiana Hospitals

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (September 2, 2020) Forrest General has been on the receiving end of the graciousness of many people during past natural disasters such as Katrina. The hospital is returning the favor this week as they reached out to hospitals in Louisiana to repay the kindness.

On Friday, FGH Supply Chain Director Doris Vaughn, and regional Vizient Director Kristin Allen, RN MSN, were talking about what immediate needs Louisiana hospitals might have. Vizient is the nation's largest member-driven health care performance improvement company. A late night email outlined specific needs, and on Saturday, Vaughn gathered items from the Forrest General Storeroom.

“We pulled what we could based on what they needed and available inventory,” said Vaughn. “We were able to donate 30 fans, three cases of diapers, and three cases of feminine products to Vizient’s Louisiana hospitals over the weekend. We were able to donate supplies along with Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.” Vizient has about 120 facilities participating in this donation drive.

This past weekend, Allen visited southwest Louisiana hospitals in West Calcasieu (Cameron Hospital), Lake Charles (Memorial Hospital) and Beauregard (Memorial Hospital), and also CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles. She and Kathy Christensen, Vizient vice president for Networks, divided out the supplies donated by Forrest General where they were most needed, while adding some additional supplies, large fruit baskets and even a freshly-baked cake.

“The area is so devastated, and I don’t believe power or water are expected in Lake Charles Memorial or St. Patrick for another three to four weeks,” Allen said.

Vaughn said Forrest General was eager to pay it forward after surviving Katrina. “I know what devastation and hardship these hospitals will have to live through,” said Vaughn. “We’re glad to give something to help get through the tough times.”
