Forrest General Hospital designated a STEMI Receiving Center

Forrest General Hospital has been designated as a STEMI Receiving Center by the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH).

An ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is a type of severe heart attack that requires immediate intervention. According to its website, the goal of the Mississippi STEMI System of Care, maintained by MSDH, is to “reduce mortality and morbidity resulting from cardiac disease and injury.”

This designation acknowledges that Forrest General employs scientifically recognized best practices when treating STEMI patients and that the hospital has the staff and equipment necessary to care for these emergent patients.

“I am proud of the work our STEMI team does every day to ensure our patients have the best outcomes possible. We are honored that the Mississippi Department of Health designated Forrest General a STEMI Receiving Center, and we look forward to continuing our work serving the Pine Belt community,” said Robert Wilkins, MD, FACC.
