The Orthopedic Institute celebrates 5 years of providing world class orthopedic care

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (October 17, 2017) This October, The Orthopedic Institute celebrates 5 years of providing centralized orthopedic care to patients in Hattiesburg and surrounding areas. The facility offers inpatient and outpatient care in one location, making it easier and more convenient for orthopedic patients to get the care they need.

“At The Orthopedic Institute, you’re surrounding yourself with some awesome people. Every department was a blessing to us. I had complete confidence in my doctors, who knew what they were doing. It wasn’t a job for them. It was a vocation of them helping people, and they did a good job,” said Patrick Burke, a patient of The Orthopedic Institute.

In 2012, The Orthopedic Institute relocated 30 existing orthopedic beds from Forrest General’s main campus to the site located at 27 Southern Pointe Parkway on Veterans Memorial Drive in Hattiesburg.

“The Orthopedic Institute has given me the opportunity for professional growth and has been a wonderful learning experience. I have enjoyed being a part of this hospital growing to become a premiere specialty facility and caring for patients from across the region. The positive work environment, the experienced staff, and the state-of-the-art facility have made me very proud to be part of the team at The Orthopedic Institute,” said Ute Benge, RN.

For many orthopedic patients needing a joint replacement, such as a hip, knee or shoulder, or surgery on their hand, foot, ankle, spine, or for a sports injury, The Orthopedic Institute has been their one-stop location. These patients are able to recover in a facility equipped to care for their unique orthopedic needs. Some of the facility’s features include spacious rooms with wider doorways, bed and chairs designed for orthopedic patients, and a physical therapy program dedicated to the evaluation and recovery of joint replacement patients, among many others. The Orthopedic Institute combines the latest technology with expert, caring physicians and staff to offer services that match the highest levels of orthopedic care delivered across the country.

Andy Woodard, president of Forrest Health said, “I am incredibly pleased with what we have accomplished with The Orthopedic Institute. This facility is a leader in the region with constant advancements in technology while also providing comfort and convenience for our patients. This facility has proven to be a great asset to Hattiesburg, our state and the southeast in offering outstanding orthopedic care."

This connection with Forrest General Hospital allows physicians at The Orthopedic Institute the ability to offer a team approach on more complex cases, which may require more than orthopedic treatment alone. In addition to serving patients in the Pine Belt, The Orthopedic Institute treats patients in the Southern region from surrounding states including Arkansas and Tennessee and in some cases as far as New Jersey. As of the end of September 2017, The Orthopedic Institute has seen 13,670 surgery cases over the past 5 years.

“Five years ago, the leadership team at Forrest Health had a vision of providing a highly specialized level of orthopedic services to the region by building The Orthopedic Institute. We could not have grown to become this outstanding facility without their continued support and commitment in addition to the dedication and unwavering focus on our patients from our medical staff, nurses and employees,” said Steve Jackson, administrator of The Orthopedic Institute.
