Lawrence Leader, D.O., of Hattiesburg Clinic talked with Fox23’s Elizabeth Rodil about American Heart Month, which is celebrated in February.

In the video, Dr. Leader advises 3 simple steps to help manage your heart:

    1. Learn basic life support skills. Knowing these basic skills can potentially save a person’s life and minimize damage to the brain and heart while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.
    2. Help your peers by setting a heart healthy example. Living a heart healthy lifestyle may help others make better choices.
    3. Limit alcohol. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can lead to serious consequences for your heart such as cardio myopathy and congestive heart failure.
