Forrest General’s Director of Education Selected to Serve on Mississippi Nurses Foundation Board of Trustees
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (January 23, 2015) The Mississippi Nurses Foundation (MNF), a 501(c) 3 charitable organization established to support the Mississippi Nurses Association (MNA) and its members with nursing scholarships, continuing education support, nursing research, fundraising and health promotion, has announced that Kathryn (Ka) Russum of Hattiesburg, MS has joined its Board of Trustees.
“It gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to Ka on her appointment to the Mississippi Nurses Foundation Board of Trustees. We are confident that under her great leadership, wisdom and guidance the Mississippi Nurses Foundation will strive to much greater heights and achievements,” said Ora Lee Shaheed, system chief officer of clinical operations and system chief nursing officer at Forrest General.
Russum serves as director of education at Forrest General where she is responsible for the organization’s general orientation, competency, training and e-learning.
“She brings over 40 years of experience to the Board of Trustees with a very diverse background in leadership,” said Dr. Ladonna Northington, president of MNF Board of Trustees. “She has served in roles such as president of MNA, District 7, and lead nurse planner for MNF Continuing Education Committee, a member of the Mississippi Hospital Association Education Council and was a recipient of the Nurse Leadership Award from the Organization of Nurse Executives. We are excited to have Ka join our Board.”
Russum is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where she received her master’s degree in public health. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from William Carey College.
The Mississippi Nurses Foundation raises, accepts and disperses charitable donations to promote professional nursing and better health in Mississippi.
