Forrest General Partners with Health Help Mississippi to Host Forum to Educate Community on Affordable Care Act

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (January 28, 2015) On Tuesday, Forrest General and Health Help Mississippi hosted a community forum at Forrest General about health care and how community leaders, preachers and mayors in the Hattiesburg area can meet the challenge of educating, assisting and enrolling thousands of uninsured and underinsured people in the community. The meeting allowed policy makers, universities, hospitals, health centers and community based organizations the opportunity to collaborate and maximize their efforts in getting Mississippians enrolled.

This week, representatives from the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Enroll America and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are visiting Mississippi to discuss plans and ideas for the final weeks of open enrollment. They will participate in planning meetings with community and faith leaders across Mississippi from January 26 – 29.

“We will be getting updates from these organizations as well as discussing how we can reach out to our community and not only help residents understand the Affordable Care Act, but also assist them in enrolling in a health insurance plan,” said Pat Riley, director of Insurance Operations at Forrest General.

“It is important that, during the final weeks of Open Enrollment, Mississippians take advantage of the resources available to help them complete the enrollment process,” said Kristina Cole, Health Help Hattiesburg’s regional program manager. “We want Hattiesburg area residents to know that Health Help Mississippi and Forrest General have counselors and advocates available to provide this assistance and help answer questions.”

Over 81,000 Mississippians have already enrolled in coverage through a Marketplace health plan, but there are thousands more who are eligible for insurance and tax credits. Approximately 95 percent of Mississippians who have enrolled in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace have received financial assistance.
