Pediatrics
Forrest Health offers inpatient pediatric care at Forrest General Hospital and Highland Community Hospital. Both facilities have special nurses dedicated to the pediatric unit.
Forrest General Hospital
Inpatient Pediatrics
Our inpatient pediatric unit is a 10-bed unit that provides specialized, family-centered care for infants, children, and adolescents who require hospitalization. We are dedicated to providing safe, high-quality care while supporting both our patients and their families every step of their journey while they are here with us.
We care for a wide range of pediatric conditions that can be safely managed in an inpatient pediatric setting including:
- respiratory illnesses (flu, RSV, bronchiolitis, asthma, pneumonia)
- gastrointestinal illnesses and dehydration
- various viral and bacterial infections
- febrile illnesses
- post-surgical recovery
- minor orthopedic injuries
- observation for other illnesses or injuries as deemed appropriate by our providers.
We believe children heal best in a supportive, family-centered environment. We understand that being in the hospital can feel overwhelming, so we strive to make each child’s experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We utilize a dedicated treatment room for necessary procedures, helping to keep your child’s hospital room a place of rest and comfort.
Our team consists of compassionate, experienced pediatric nurses, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, residents, social workers, acute care technicians, lactation consultants, patient care coordinators, and support staff. Each member of our team is committed to providing safe, high-quality, and compassionate care for your child and your family.
Level of Care
Our inpatient pediatric unit provides care for children who require hospitalization but do not need intensive care. We care for a wide range of medical conditions that require monitoring, treatments and support in a hospital setting. If your child requires a higher level of care, such as intensive care services, we work closely with regional pediatric specialty centers to ensure a safe and timely transfer so your child receives the care they need.
What to Expect During Your Stay
During your child’s stay, our goal is to keep you informed, supported, and involved in their care every step of the way.
You can expect:
- Frequent monitoring and communication from your child’s care team
- Daily updates and collaboration with providers regarding your child’s progress and plan of care
- Involvement in decision-making, because you are an important part of your child’s care team
- Education and guidance to help you feel confident caring for your child after discharge
We encourage parents and caregivers to ask questions at any time. Our team is here not only to help care for your child, but also to support your entire family. Our goal is to provide not only excellent medical care, but also comfort, reassurance, and support for your child and your family throughout your stay.
