Forrest General Cancer Center Sponsors Art Contest as Part of 25th Anniversary

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (March 6, 2024) The Forrest General Cancer Center is in the business of helping others. But now we need your help. Not a tech, a nurse, or a doctor? No problem. As the Cancer Center continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary this month, we’re looking for artists or creative types to help decorate our walls.
We’d like artists of all ages to create bright, hopeful, and courageous-themed art pieces to hang in the Cancer Center. The theme is, “Colors of Courage: A Celebration of Hope.” Any submissions will be considered a donation.
From March 13 through April 17, 2-D art submissions are being accepted. The minimum submission size for artwork is 8x10 and must be scalable using a 4:5 ration.
The aspect ratio of 4:5 means that for every 4 units in one dimension, there are 5 units in the other dimension. So, the dimensions of an object with a 4:5 aspect ratio could be 8 in x 10 in, 12 in x 15 in, 16 in x 20 in, 20 in x 25 in, 24 in x 30 in, and so on.
Acceptable media for submissions includes oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, pencil, pen, photography, and mixed media. Experimental and mixed techniques are also acceptable, as long as 75% of the work uses original art. Original digital creations are also accepted (which may not include AI or digital image generation of any kind).
The original art will be displayed or printed to scale, framed, and displayed at the Forrest General Cancer Center. Winners within each of the following categories will be selected:
- Youth (ages 10-17)
- Adult (ages 18 and up)
- Coloring Outside the Lines (Originality)
Prizes will be awarded in three categories. A $250 cash prize will be presented to the youth winner and a $750 cash prize given to the adult winner. Cash prizes are courtesy of Cancer Care of Hattiesburg. The winner of the Originality category will receive a gift basket.
The art submissions will be judged by a panel of Forrest General Cancer Center employees.
Entry Guidelines:
Once submitted, the artwork becomes property of Forrest General Cancer Center and will not be returned. Each entry requires a submission form. Forms can be found online at www.forresthealth.org/art or forms may be completed at the Cancer Center at time of submission.
All submissions will be displayed at the Cancer Survivor’s Picnic in the Bill and Becky Oliver Healing Garden, pending weather.
Terms and Conditions:
Forrest General Cancer Center is not responsible for entries that are lost or not received by the deadline.
The entry must be 75% original and the participant must be the sole owner.
Winners will be notified via phone call the week of April 29, 2024. A video reel announcing winners will also be posted to social media to recognize the winners.
Submissions must be delivered to the Cancer Center no later than 5 p.m. on April 17, 2024, and a submission form must be provided for each entry.
