Forrest General Hospital Family Medicine Center
As a resident at Forrest General, the Family Medicine Center will be the base for your ambulatory patient care. Our FMC is located on the first floor of Hattiesburg Clinic, PA and is conveniently located directly across the street from Forrest General Hospital, the two being connected by a covered walkway.
In addition to 27 well equipped examination rooms, the Center has 1 procedure room, 3 resident workrooms and a common checkout area as well as a large conference room.
All ancillary services are offered within Hattiesburg Clinic and readily accessible. The Hattiesburg Clinic population is diverse across medical conditions, ages, gender and ethnicity and includes large pediatric and obstetrical practices. We use a fully integrated electronic health record system, Epic, in both the Family Medicine Center and the hospital.
Family medicine physicians, either faculty or community preceptors, staff each clinic session and are readily available to discuss patient care and to teach and supervise office procedures. A team of health care providers including physicians (and residents), nurses, counselors, social workers, dietitians and others work together to provide services for our patients.
Forrest General Hospital
Forrest General is a 512-bed facility located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, that provides regional health services to a 19-county area. Generations of Pine Belt residents have counted on Forrest General, and today’s generations continue to rely on the comprehensive care offered through the hospital’s constantly expanding range of healthcare services.
Hattiesburg Clinic first opened its doors on May 1, 1963. The clinic traces its roots to 1948 when Ramsay O’Neal, MD, an OB-GYN physician, and Glen T. Pearson, MD, a general surgeon, became partners. Together, these doctors began planning what is now the state’s largest multi-specialty clinic. Fifteen years later, Hattiesburg Clinic, then 10 doctors strong, was officially opened at the present site.
Fifty years after its beginning, the clinic has grown to over 300 physicians and providers, caring for patients in more than 18 counties in South Mississippi. Along with almost 2,000 professional staff employees, these physicians and providers come together for a common purpose, to serve the over 500,000 residents who live and work in South Mississippi every day.
Employee Health Services
Another opportunity to provide acute care is offered within our own Employee Health Services (EHS) located on the ground level of the hospital. Upper level residents are scheduled throughout the year to provide same day acute care visits for employees and their families. All ages are seen in the clinic which is fully equipped and includes a procedure room and a working office for the resident. As with the FMC, Epic is the electronic health record used.
Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative (SEMRHI)
Continuity care for maternity patients is achieved through working with Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Clinic (SEMRHI), a federally funded rural health facility. PGY 2 and PGY 3 residents will have scheduled clinic days each month at SEMRHI to follow patients for prenatal care, delivery/inpatient care as well as postpartum follow-up. Residents are assigned patients that they will follow through all phases
