Hattiesburg is the center of a tri-county area in South Mississippi, and the MSA has population of nearly 150,000. Centrally located between Jackson, Mississippi, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, New Orleans, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama, Hattiesburg offers a mix of big city advantages with small town charm.

    The University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University also call Hattiesburg home. The nursing program at Southern Miss and the nursing program and College of Osteopathic Medicine at William Carey provide great resources and help make Hattiesburg a major medical community.

    A Board of Trustees appointed by the Forrest County Board of Supervisors is charged with the oversight of Forrest Health.  The system is completely self supporting and does not operate on local taxes.
    Forrest Health facilities are approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for participation in Medicare and Medicaid Programs.
