Nurse Extern Program Details
Any senior-level nursing student can participate in the Nurse Extern Program but must be enrolled in the Summer Nurse Extern Course offered by a School of Nursing program approved to participate in the Nurse Extern Program. Our program will begin 5/19/2025 and will end 9/25/2025. The program requires 320 hours with no overtime. Nurse Externs will wear white scrub tops and galaxy blue pants with an Employee ID badge.
Nurse Externs work the same shift as their preceptor and may only perform skills that have been validated by their Schools of Nursing. The Nurse Extern will have a paper checklist from the schools validating skills. All IV-related skills must be performed in presence of a preceptor.
An exclusion skills checklist should be with the extern, preceptor, and post in the unit. These skills CAN NOT be performed by the Nurse Extern.
