Forrest General Hospital partners with Southern Miss to give football-loving moms a Baby-Friendly Experience
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (September 1, 2017) – Forrest General and Southern Miss have partnered to provide nursing moms with a Mothers’ Lounge to use during football games this football season. This would provide nursing mothers with quiet, private place to care for their babies.
“We want to make breastfeeding easy and enjoyable for mothers, and part of that mission is enabling them to attend their favorite events, like Southern Miss football games. Of course a mother may feed her child anywhere she feels comfortable, but for some, who prefer to breastfeed privately, the Mothers’ Lounge may empower them to come out and enjoy the game with their families when they may have chosen to stay home, ” said Millie Swan, Forrest Health vice president.
Forrest General is already making strides for women and babies in the Pine Belt by becoming the first and only Baby-Friendly Hospital in the state and the first hospital in the state to be named a Blue Distinction® Center+ of Excellence for Maternity Care by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi. Both of these prestigious awards follow strict, evidence-based criteria for their requirements ensuring mothers and babies only the highest quality care at facilities with these designations.
The Mothers’ Lounge is part of an ongoing initiative at Southern Miss to make their games fun for the entire family. It will be conveniently located at Cook Union on the second floor in room 215. To return to the game after nursing, moms and guests will need to present their ticket stubs at the gate. Mothers are able to bring bags with their pumps, but the bags will need to be checked and tagged at Gate 2 before entering the game. If pumps are carried in a clear bag, no checking is required.
