Pearl River County Hospital has New ER Entrance for Patients to Use

Pearl River County Hospital has opened a brand-new Emergency Room entrance as part of a $5.5 million project that will provide a modern update for the facility. This entrance and other facility updates were part of Phase I, which was recently completed.

Phase II, which is now underway, means changes in the traffic pattern at the facility. All traffic to the ER by private vehicle or EMS should enter from West Moody Street located on the north side of the facility. The back entrance to the ER on Holliday Drive is closed as work gets underway in this area.

Those dropping off patients should turn into the hospital’s western-most drive off Moody Street, continue straight to the corner of the building and then turn left in front of the facility heading east.

Patients will find a new covered ramp which provides easy access for those using wheelchairs or those on stretchers being dropped off by ambulance, especially during inclement weather. For those coming by car to the ER, guests are asked to park in a parking place and not block the one-lane drive-thru which heads east in front of the building. This will keep traffic flowing in the event of an emergency.

The helipad, which was revamped in 2023, is located to the left of this emergency drive--thru and provides those bringing patients in immediate access to the ER.

The ER area and waiting room provide a welcoming aesthetic, which is finished out in rich peacock blues and grays. An enclosed registration desk is the first thing patients see when they enter the ER entrance. The waiting room with plenty of seating looks out over the lawn through the original floor-to-ceiling windows. A television mounted on the wall, bathroom facilities, and vending machines, to be installed soon, make the area more comfortable for those waiting on loved ones.

Artwork and PRCH signage, which will brighten the walls, has not yet been installed. Other finishes include fresh paint, new floors, ceiling tiles, and lighting.

In addition to the new ER entrance and facilities, the update includes all new cutting-edge trauma and exam rooms, triage, and upgraded imaging suites equipped with advanced X-ray and CT capabilities.

All work is scheduled to be completed by October. This is a collaborative project with the Pearl River Board of Supervisors with funding from grant sources and supplemented by Forrest Health.
