Forrest General Hospital employees donate over $200,000 for cancer care in the Pine Belt
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (March 31, 2017) Forrest General Hospital employees presented a check for $255,897.16 to the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation for the current employee giving campaign, Tackle Cancer, on Friday, March 31.
“Each year I am humbled by the generosity of the employees and staff at Forrest General Hospital. The Employee Campaign committee worked extremely hard this year, and because of their dedication to this cause, we are much closer to reaching our goal for Together…We Can! Advancing Cancer Care,” said Martha Dearman, executive director of the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation.
The funds from the employee campaign will ultimately become part of Together… We Can! Advancing Cancer Care, the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation’s current public fundraising campaign. Construction has already begun for the first part of the project, a new infusion center (OPACS) and family waiting area. The project will also include The Healing Garden and a new Patient Navigation Services Program. The Healing Garden, which will be adjacent to the Cancer Center, will offer patients, loved ones and visitors a quiet, outdoor space away from treatment areas. The Garden will be open to all, every day, from dawn to dusk offering a place to spend time alone to think, rest, and regain emotional and physical energy. The Patient Navigation Services Program will help guide patients to live with, through, and beyond cancer. From screenings to treatment and follow up care, the Patient Navigator will educate patients and their families and coordinate consistent care between individual patients and the various healthcare providers.
