Forrest General Hospice hosts Annual Memorial Service

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (March 5, 2016) Forrest General Hospice held its annual memorial service on Saturday, March 5 at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center to honor the memory of patients who passed away while on hospice service this past year. All family members and friends of those patients were invited to attend. There was a balloon and butterfly release and reception following the service.

“The Hospice Memorial provides a space for the family and friends of our patients as well as our hospice staff and volunteers to gather and remember those we have lost. For us, this is an important part of providing emotional and spiritual support for our patients’ loved ones,” said Melita Miller, director of Home Care and Hospice.

During times of serious illness and loss, hospice is instrumental in providing care and improving the quality of life for terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice care emphasizes maintaining dignity, improving quality of life and providing compassionate care and comfort during a difficult time.

“The Hospice Memorial service has always provided a source of comfort for the loved ones grieving.  It inspires us as we honor the cherished lives that are no longer with us. We hope that this helps the loved ones of our patients begin the healing process from their loss and provides them an uplifting experience to remember their loved ones,” said Becky Pardue, Hospice patient care manager.

In an effort to reach terminally ill patients and their families with more complex needs, Forrest Health is building a hospice home to provide the community with increased access hospice care at the most challenging level. The new Asbury Hospice House is expected to open this fall. It will provide a peaceful, home-like setting where hospice staff can address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each patient and family who are struggling with challenging care issues.
