The Forrest General Cancer Center Earns National Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

Hattiesburg, Miss. (April 11, 2016)— The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation to the cancer program at the Forrest General Cancer Center, which has been accredited through this organization since 1970.  To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

Because it is a CoC-accredited cancer center, Forrest General Cancer Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary partnership results in the highest quality patient care.

“Staying true to our vision to define the healthcare experience by providing world class care, we want nothing but the best for our patients. We understand the vital role of measuring the quality of the care we deliver against national standards, and our staff and physicians strive to constantly enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs,” said Joe Marcello, service line administrator for Oncology Services.
