Forrest General Hospice hosts Annual Memorial Service

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (March 2, 2015) Forrest General Hospice held its annual memorial service on Saturday, February 28 at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center to honor the memory of patients who passed away while on hospice service this past year. All family members and friends of those patients were invited to attend. There was a balloon release and reception following the service.

“This was an opportunity for the hospice staff and the patients’ families who are grieving to remember and honor a loved one in the company of others,” said Rev. Ken Roberts, hospice chaplain/bereavement coordinator.

Susan Innman Seals, a family member who attended the event, said “The service was wonderful and it meant so much to us to be a part of it. The hospice staff was very professional and helpful and we could not have gone through our journey without you.”

During times of serious illness and loss, hospice is instrumental in providing care and improving the quality of life for terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice care emphasizes maintaining dignity, improving quality of life and providing compassionate care and comfort during a difficult time.

“People who are grieving can always find a place of comfort at this Memorial Service. It is a good place to gain support and begin to heal from loss,” said Becky Pardue, Hospice patient care manager.

“Our hospice staff and volunteers are the most dedicated, caring and patient focused caregivers who are able to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support for patients and their loved ones,” said Melita Miller, director of Home Care and Hospice.

In an effort to reach terminally ill patients and their families with more complex needs, Forrest Health is building a hospice home to provide the community with increased access hospice care at the most challenging level. Forrest General’s Healthcare Foundation is committed to a $5 million community capital fundraising campaign to give individuals in the community an opportunity to be a part of a place that offers special comfort to the terminally ill in South Mississippi. When completed, the new Asbury Hospice House will provide a peaceful, home-like setting where hospice staff can address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each patient and family who are struggling with challenging care issues.
